Hello everyone!!! What a great time I had on Rainy River last Friday. I left Thursday night after work and it was cloudy until I got to Mil Lacs Lake. Then the sun came out and I had the most beautiful ride. I decided to cut off in Garrison and take 6 up to 11 and from there 46 and 72. The Avenue of Trees is such a peaceful area. 46 miles of gorgeous pines hugging the road.
When I get my motorcycle license, I plan to make the journey to Baudette via this path. I reached Baudette in exactly 5 hours. That is a record! I hit almost every stop light green. I only made 2 stops. My favorite gas station bait shop in Northome and a quick restroom stop along the way.
It was so much fun to get to Baudette before dark. Gary and LeeAnn had been working in the yard and planting gardens. Everything was taking on the freshness of spring. Gary took Friday off because it was supposed to be the nicest day of the weekend. We got up, packed lunch, and beer and off we went. I caught a gorgeous piece of bark and grabbed a brand new volleyball some poor kid lost control of that was floating up the river. I still think it is cool that north of the Laurentian Divide water flows to the North. It really feels weird to me to watch the current travel North.
Well one good thing about not getting a sturgeon is that I get to go back for the 2nd season in July and try again. Gary invited me to go fishing in June for walleyes and finish my decoys.
I am happy to say that Saturdays rain was a blessing . Gary needed to work on a walley decoy and LeeAnn wanted to start painting her Northern pike replica so I got to learn from them both and finish my first decoy. Gary is a master carver. www.hulldecoys.com and LeeAnn is going o be a champion painter. She entered a few fish at Perham and got a 2nd and 3rd place ribbon. Congrats LeeAnn for being able to beat out expert carvers paint jobs. That is a great accomplishment. You Rock!
Here it is my first decoy in my favorite color scheme for pike. Thank you Gary Hull for being an excellent teacher.
